Found Wooden Devotional Cross

One found piece. One powerful symbol. One reminder of a price already paid.

For the second time, I walked into the same vintage thrift shop and found something I was looking for. A unique peace from God, and I found it!

This isn’t a religious store. It is simply a place filled with objects from different homes, different times, and stories we may never know. Yet on both of my visits, among everything else, I found something that pointed me directly back to Christ.

The first was The Hour of Prayer, a small image of Jesus in Gethsemane.

This time, it was a cross.

And I couldn’t leave it behind.

The Price Was Paid

Across the wooden crossbeam are the words:

“Amazing Grace…”

At its center is a large decorative nail, its pointed end marked in red.

The design is simple, rustic and imperfect, but its message is enormous.

The cross reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice.

The nail recalls the price of the Crucifixion.

The red calls to mind the blood He shed.

And Amazing Grace reminds us why the Cross matters: salvation is not something we could purchase for ourselves. Christ paid the price.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

This is a moment Christians know well, yet it is a moment worth remembering again and again.

The Cross is not merely decoration. It is a reminder of love, sacrifice, forgiveness and grace.

Why This Piece

There is something especially beautiful about finding an object whose original story is unknown.

I don’t know who made this cross.

I don’t know who owned it before.

I don’t know where it hung or what circumstances eventually brought it to a thrift shop.

Its construction has a handmade character, but because its maker and date are unknown, I cannot claim that it was handmade or assign it a specific age. What I can say is that someone designed it with a very clear purpose: to point toward the Cross.

And that purpose deserves to continue.

Rather than allowing this little devotional to become just another forgotten object on a thrift-store shelf, I decided to bring it into Judith Cristina and give it the opportunity to find another home.

Maybe that is part of what JC FOUND can become.

I plan to continue returning to this little vintage shop and searching other places for forgotten Christian treasures pieces with history, character and messages of faith that deserve another chapter.

A Found Treasure

This is a pre-owned wooden devotional cross featuring contrasting stained wood, the words “Amazing Grace…” across the horizontal beam, and a decorative nail-style centerpiece with red detailing.

The wood and finish show natural imperfections and signs of previous ownership. The centerpiece appears to be a molded decorative material rather than an actual iron nail. Its exact maker, manufacturing date and history are unknown.

It is being offered as found, with its character preserved rather than restored or made to appear new.
