One reminder of a price already paid.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eFor the second time, I walked into the same vintage thrift shop and found something I was looking for. A unique peace from God, and I found it!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eThis isn’t a religious store. It is simply a place filled with objects from different homes, different times, and stories we may never know. Yet on both of my visits, among everything else, I found something that pointed me directly back to Christ.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eThe first was \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eThe Hour of Prayer\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e, a small image of Jesus in Gethsemane.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThis time, it was a cross.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAnd I couldn’t leave it behind.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eThe Price Was Paid\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAcross the wooden crossbeam are the words:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e“Amazing Grace…”\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAt its center is a large decorative nail, its pointed end marked in red.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe design is simple, rustic and imperfect, but its message is enormous.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe \u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003ecross\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe \u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003enail\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e recalls the price of the Crucifixion.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe \u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003ered\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e calls to mind the blood He shed.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAnd \u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eAmazing Grace\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e reminds us why the Cross matters: salvation is not something we could purchase for ourselves. Christ paid the price.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003e“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eRomans 5:8\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThis is a moment Christians know well, yet it is a moment worth remembering again and again.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe Cross is not merely decoration. It is a reminder of love, sacrifice, forgiveness and grace.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eWhy This Piece\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eThere is something especially beautiful about finding an object whose original story is unknown.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI don’t know who made this cross.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI don’t know who owned it before.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI don’t know where it hung or what circumstances eventually brought it to a thrift shop.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eIts construction has a handmade character, but because its maker and date are unknown, I cannot claim that it was handmade or assign it a specific age. What I \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003ci\u003ecan\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e say is that someone designed it with a very clear purpose: \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eto point toward the Cross.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eAnd that purpose deserves to continue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eRather than allowing this little devotional to become just another forgotten object on a thrift-store shelf, I decided to bring it into Judith Cristina and give it the opportunity to find another home.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eMaybe that is part of what \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eJC FOUND\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003e can become.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eI plan to continue returning to this little vintage shop and searching other places for forgotten Christian treasures pieces with history, character and messages of faith that deserve another chapter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eNot reproductions made by the hundreds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eFound pieces. The centerpiece appears to be a molded decorative material rather than an actual iron nail.
